Breaking News - Evgeni Malkin's future with the Penguins reportedly decided
The Penguins drafted Evgeni Malkin 2nd overall in 2004. He's spent his entire NHL career as a member of that same Penguins organization. Over his career he's played in 981 games scoring 1146 points. He's also added a Calder Trophy, Art Ross Trophy (x2), Conn Smythe and a Ted Lindsay Trophy over his career, to go along with multiple Stanley Cup wins.
The fans in Pittsburgh will never forget all the things Malkin has accomplished. But with a new ownership group, along with new President in Brian Burke and General Manager, Ron Hextall, things have changed. The loyalty to the previous regime no longer exists.
That has become even more clear as information has begun to leak about the Penguins strategy moving forward.
Numerous agents have told me that, after conversations they've had with Penguins general manager Ron Hextall, they believe it's unlikely that Evgeni Malkin is returning to Pittsburgh. Some people I've spoken with in the Penguins organization feel the same way.
Rumours have already linked Malkin to the Washington Capitals to play with fellow countryman, Alex Ovechkin.
With free agency 2 weeks away, things are about to get interesting.
