Almost moment by moment, the Leafs have announced several trades involving their bottom six forwards and top six defence. This afternoon, the Leafs have traded Rasmus Sandin to the Washington Capitals and Pierre Engvall to the New York Islanders, and acquired defenceman Erik Gustafsson and Luke Schenn.
As of now, the Leafs have added two depth defenceman to an already deep roster. With now 9 NHL caliber defenceman, it's possible that the Leafs still aren't done tinkering with the roster.
Erik Gustafsson is a 30 year old offensively inclined defenceman, who actually now leads the Leafs d-core in scoring with 7 goals and 38 points in 61 games. Luke Schenn is a former first round draft choice by the Leafs, and now returns as a grizzled, stay-at-home defenceman with Stanley Cup experience. The Leafs are clearing going all in this year, and may not even be done yet.
