The Toronto Maple Leafs got a huge victory over the Boston Bruins last night 2-1. The game did not come without cost though. During Brad Marchand's penalty shot goal, Ilya Samsonov injured his left knee and did not start the third period. Samsonov seemed to stumble and fall backwards awkwardly as Marchand went to the backhand and scored. This is real bad news for Toronto who is already without Matt Murray and Samsonov had been playing well. As of Saturday night, there was no time table for long Samsonov will be out. Let's hope it is not long term.

Erik Kallgren finished the game in relief of Samsonov. He looks to be the teams new number one goalie until either Murray or Samsonov return to the lineup healthy. It seems that Samsonov will miss some time because the Maple Leafs have signed Keith Petruzzelli to an NHL contract.

Petruzzelli was down in the American Hockey League skating with the Toronto Marlies. Petruzzelli has six wins and no losses and a 2.31 goals against average with the Marlies. He is a 2017 third round pick of the Detroit Red Wings and spent four years at Quinnipiac University. He has yet to play in an NHL game in his career.

This is tough break for the Maple Leafs. They have struggled to find consistency early in the year and now both their typical goaltenders are out. Things are not going to be easy without Samsonov and now Toronto is in Carolina tonight so look for Petruzzelli to backup Erik Kallgren tonight.
