The NHL Trade Deadline isn't until March 3rd, but for the second week in a row a team has announced a blockbuster trade. Moments ago, NHL Insider Frank Seravalli broke the news that the New York Rangers have acquired Vladimir Tarasenko from the St. Louis Blues.
At the moment, the return for the Blues is unknown, but it's been reported that Tarasenko would cost a first round draft pick and a decent prospect.
In 38 games this season, Tarasenko has 10 goals and 29 points, a slight dip from his expected offensive production at this point in his career. The 31 year old is in the final year of a contract that owes him $7.5M annually, including a no-move clause, meaning that he selected the Rangers as a preferred destination.
Tarasenko will greatly boost the Rangers top-six forward group, adding even more offence to a loaded lineup. An added boost for Tarasenko, he'll be able to play with his playmaking countryman Artemi Panarin. The Rangers look primed for a long playoff run this season.
