The Buffalo Sabres believe the time for them to take the next step is now. After years of rebuilding the team is full of promising young talent, their prospect cupboards are full and the Sabres have high expectations. This year the Sabres believe it's playoffs or bust.
The team however feels they still have a hole on their roster in goal. With young up and comer Devon Levi as the future in goal, the Sabres appear set for the long-term. But throwing Levi into the NHL as a starter next season is just asking for trouble.
So the Sabres have looked outside the franchise for potential goaltending solutions. According to Hockey Blogger Eklund, the Sabres are focused on a potential trade for Logan Thompson of the Vegas Golden Knights. The Knights are shopping Thompson after committing big money to Adin Hill after he led the team to the Stanley Cup, leaving them a need to clear cap space.
If the Sabres were able to land Thompson it would not only make them a real playoff contender, but a threat in the Atlantic. With both the Bruins and Lightning expected to take a step back this season, the Sabres could end their NHL record playoff drought.
