Buffalo Sabres terminating the contract of former 1st round pick
The Buffalo Sabres had hoped that they'd be able to unlock some lost potential on Riley Sheahan. But that experiment is officially over as the Sabres have announced they've placed the former 1st round pick on unconditional waivers for purposes of termination of his contract.
The Sabres signed Sheahan this past summer to a one-year deal worth $950,000. Sheahan has only played 2 games for the Sabres this year notching no points. In 6 American Hockey League games Sheahan has 3 assists.
The St. Catherines, Ontario native will become a free agent tomorrow at 2 pm if he goes unclaimed on waivers, as is expected. Sheahan could sign another AHL/NHL deal or he could opt to go to Europe to continue his career.
