When Johnny Gaudreau left the Calgary Flames for the bright lights of Columbus, Ohio, it seemed like the Flames could be in trouble. But when Matthew Tkachuk announced that he wasn't interested in signing an extension with the Flames, it seemed like the worst case scenario. Most experts wrote off the Flames, many went as far as claiming the Flames would be forced to rebuild.
After losing two of their best players, Treliving somehow found away to improve his team. That began with acquiring Jonathan Huberdeau, Mackenzie Weegar, Cole Scwhindt and a 1st round pick. Treliving followed that up with the signing of Nazem Kadri and eventually trading Sean Monahan to the Montreal Canadiens to create cap space.
But it appears that Treliving isn't done his off season shopping. According to Cap Friendly the Flames still have $2,136,667 in cap space available and during his media availability Treliving has his eyes set on adding one more key piece.
