Cam Talbot admits he's angry that Marc-Andre Fleury was the Wild's starter
Cam Talbot in the post Game 6 interview shared his opinion on being benched until the elimination game:
"Obviously was I disappointed?" Talbot said of the decision for Fleury to start the series. "Yeah. [Angry]? Yeah."
Talbot's anger is legitimate, as his regular-season ending record was an impressive 13-0-3 before the playoffs.
It's been speculated in the media that the Wild will move on from the journeyman goalie, or he will ask for a trade, given the damage to the relationship.
It is likely that the call to start Flower was from above, seeing as he and Guerin are friends. This goes to show, that in the NHL it's all networking, even for coaches who fail upwards, it's who you know.
But clearly, there's a relationship that will have to be mended, because despite Talbot having a year left at $3.67 million on his contract, Kelly alluded to the possibility of a trade and a new hometown next season. «Ride or Dies!» she wrote in a Tweet that has since been deleted. «So proud of @ctalbot33 ! Home is wherever YOU are! Excited for time with you and wherever the next adventure takes us!»
Talbot has one year left at $3.67 Million next year, so it's hard telling what happens, despite Cam speaking well of the team as a whole:
«Ask me in a couple more days after I process this one,» Talbot said. «This is a special group, and I do have one year left (on my contract), and I'm just excited to be a part of this team and this group, that locker room. As much as that hurt, this is still a group that I believe in a group that I'd like to be a part of. It's a special team.»
If Bill Guerin uses him as a Cap Dump, without addressing the defense situation, along with keeping a 2-3 playoff record Flower, it would seem like maybe it's a top-up issue.
