The Vancouver Canucks managed to clear cap space and re-acquired their 2022 third round draft pick. They completed a deal with the Ottawa Senators to send Travis Hamonic and his $3 Million cap hit. But it seems like that might not be the only benefit of this trade. According to Frank Seravalli, Hamonic may have been a bit of a problem in the locker room.
Multiple players had reached out just to say what a breath of fresh air it was after getting rid of Hamonic.
There have been rumblings all year of Travis Hamonic not fitting in with the Canucks and it seems like that may be true. Marc Methot, a former Ottawa Senator who still has connections within the team, said on Twitter that he didn't understand the trade. Especially because Hamonic had been described as «different bird», which is a nice way of calling someone an asshole.
It's a weird acquisition, for sure. I honestly haven't followed the on ice play of the player in some time. I can say this, I know lots of players. All of them have told me that the new acquisition is a bit of a different bird. Not sure that's what I'd want around a young core.
Of course, I could be wrong. The problem is, I'm usually correct.
It will be interesting to see how Hamonic's acquisition affects the team dynamic in Ottawa. GM Pierre Dorion mentioned that we should «just give the guy a chance»
The most surprising move about this trade though? The Senators could have had Travis Hamonic for free earlier this season via waivers, but instead they gave up a 3rd round pick instead.
