Within the hour of their game tonight, the Carolina Hurricanes announced that Michael Bunting will not play today for personal reasons, and will technically be a healthy scratch.
There's no other information available at the moment, but being unavailable for a game at the last minute due to personal reasons is rarely a good thing. Hopefully, hockey fans rally in wishing Bunting well if anything has happened.
Bunting broke out two years ago with incredibly successful seasons on his hometown Toronto Maple Leafs. This offseason, he was a cap casualty of the Leafs, and signed with the Hurricanes as a free agent for three years and $4.5M annually. He's had a hot start with his new team, scoring 3 goals and 8 points in 11 games.
