Chicago Blackhawks massively overpay Nick Foligno on brand new contract
Chicago Blackhawks have signed Nick Foligno to a brand new contract with a large cap hit.
When the Chicago Blackhawks signed Nick Foligno to a 1-year contract worth $4 million per season fans across the NHL were shocked. The money was clearly being paid to encourage Foligno to not test the open market. The money was clearly not being paid for his production.
If his original $4 million price tag seemed high, fans will be even more shocked to find out that today Foligno inked an extension for even more money. According to Chris Johnston the new contract is set to pay Foligno $9 million over the next two years.
Nick Foligno signs a two-year extension with the #blackhawks carrying a $4.5M AAV.
The season in 39 games Foligno has just 17 points. It is very clear that the Blackhawks feel the leadership he is provided to Conor Bedard is worth a significant overpay on the contract. With a Blackhawks of least two seasons away from contending, the money was likely never an objection.
