Earlier this week, Corey Perry was made a healthy scratch in the Blackhawks game against the Columbus Blue Jackets. It was a strange and sudden decision, as Perry has a clear role as a veteran presence on the rebuilding team, and has had a successful start to the season with 4 goals and 9 points in 16 games.
After missing the game against Columbus, Perry was absent from practice the next day, which began to prompt serious questions about his status. Originally explained as an organization decision' to scratch Perry, now ahead of a game against the Leafs where he's set to be scratched again, the Blackhawks are handling the matter quietly now.
Before the game today, head coach Luke Richardson updated the media that the team will keep information on Perry internal' for now, and has no timeline on when he can provide more information.
It's a shocking turn of events after what appeared to be a great fit between Perry and the Blackhawks. Now, as he misses more and more time without any explanation, his absence keeps becoming more mysterious.
It's impossible to speculate on what could possibly be happening, but if it's a personal matter, the hockey community will wish Perry the best.
