The Columbus Blue Jackets are supposed to be in the middle of a rebuild, with a newer and younger roster. However, one of their star players was injured during Wednesday night's game against the Carolina Hurricanes.

During the game Brett Pesce checks Laine into the boards during the hit. During the hit, you can see Laine's right arm sandwiched between Pesce and the boards.

Laine would go on to finish his shift in the second period, briefly return to the bench before heading back to the locker room with the trainer, never returning.

"Yeah, I mean, it [stinks]," Gaudreau said. "You never want someone to get hurt, but you're on a new team, you're building chemistry with your linemates, you think you had a good camp and then you're not playing together the middle of the second period. Hopefully, it's nothing too serious, but I thought we were playing well and then the game kind of slipped away from us."

Johnny Gaudreau, Patrik Laine, and Boone Jenner were supposed to be Columbus' top line, but the chemistry will be tested once again, as Kent Johnson will be called up to fill the gap in the meantime.

This will be a rough 3 to 4 weeks for a team who is still building chemistry and struggling to find its new identity; post-John Tortorella.
