Columbus defender proves how tough hockey players are after playing through gruesome injury
With the Columbus Blue Jackets already down two defenders, Nick Blankenburg suffered an injury of his own. With his team down two skaters already, Blankenburg knew what it would mean if he was unable to continue. That meant reaching down and gutting out the rest of the game.
Not only was Blankenburg able to gut through the injury, he played a pivotal role in the victory. During the game Blankenburg suffered a fractured ankle as well as a high ankle sprain. Blankenburg continued through the pain and scored an empty net goal.
Today the Blue Jackets announced that Blankenburg will miss significant time due to the injury.
D Nick Blankenburg will miss 6 to 8 weeks with a broken ankle.
Blankenburg's heart and toughness is just another example of his skill and determination.
