One of them is Jakob Pelletier, who was called up recently and has played only an NHL game.
Darryl Sutter goes into the post-game conference while reporters ask about the coach's opinion of Pelletier and Sutter mockingly asks What number is he?'. When pressed, Sutter goes on to say that Pelletier has a long way to go before anything else.
The disrespect for Pelletier is clear as day by his head coach, you can tell by his demeanor, Sutter doesn't want to be there or doesn't want to answer questions. With mistakes like placing Milan Lucic in anything other than a defensive role in the bottom six, the lack of oversight is troubling as young guys continue to get shafted in development. Pelletier is literally the third Flames call-up this has happened to, with Adam Ruzicka and Matthew Phillips being the prior victims. Sutter isn't able to adapt to the current style of NHL play.
It's a great style for defence until you lose. In the meantime, Pelletier in 2021-2022 put up 62 points in 66 games with the Stockton Heat last season and currently has 34 points this season.
There is a chance Sutter was joking, but either way, if I was Pelletier, I wouldn't take too kindly to this.
