The Washington Capitals were hit with some hard news in the past week. Losing Backstrom for what could be the entirety of the next season is a huge blow to them and to Alexander Ovechkin.
According to Hockey Insider Elliotte Friedman, the Capitals have 2 players in their line of sight to temporarily replace Backstrom.
The Capitals reportedly have varying levels of interest in JT Miller and Nazem Kadri. Both of these players would provide an immediate impact for the Capitals, but clearly come with different challenges. Acquiring Miller would involve moving picks and prospects, while Kadri would simply cost cash.
Look for the Capitals to try and find someone to help ensure Alex Ovechkin has a center to help him chase Gretzky's all time goal record.
