NHL issues a statement on Nazem Kadri's controversial overtime goal, doesn't deny it was too many men
Nazem Kadri scored the biggest goal of his career last night as a member of the Colorado Avalanche. The overtime game winner puts the Avs one win away from winning the Stanley Cup. The goal means the Stanley Cup will be in the building Friday night in Denver.
The goal however doesn't come without controversy. On the play it appears Kadri comes onto the ice early and is involved in the play long before Nathan MacKinnon exits the ice.

A too many men on the ice penalty is a judgement call that can be made by any of the four on-ice officials.
Following the game, Hockey Operations met with the four officials as is their normal protocol. In discussing the winning goal, each of the four officials advised that they did not see a too many men on the ice situation on the play.
This call is not subject to video review either by Hockey Ops or the on-ice officials.
The NHL clearly doesn't deny in this statement that there was a missed call, but they simply state that none of the officials on the ice saw a penalty on the play. Unfortunately for Cooper and the Lightning there are no coach's challenges in overtime.
A missed too many men penalty also doesn't justify a "missed stoppage in play" under the current replay rules.
