The Edmonton Oilers and Vancouver Canucks don't like each other. It doesn't matter if the teams are on opposite ends of the standings, the two teams always play each other tough. Last night's preseason action was no exception.
With less than a minute remaining in a game the Canucks already led 5-2, Oilers' defender Vincent Desharnais took an opportunity to get in a free shot. Desharnais approached Anthony Beauvillier and delivered a cross check to the face. Fans were furious that the much large Desharnais would take these type of liberties with a much smaller opponent.
Both Desharnais and Adam Erne were ejected for their actions on the play, but this also brought forward a glaring hole on the Canucks roster. The Canucks lack anyone to protect their talented players, which could prove to be a real issue. Look for the Canucks to reach out to players like Nick Ritchie or Wayne Simmonds in the wake of this, to try and add some toughness.
