Evander Kane refuses to stop chirping the referee and gets an unsportsmanlike conduct penalty for it
The Edmonton Oilers and Evander Kane had a difficult night Thursday in Chicago. The Oilers at times felt they were playing against both the Blackhawks and the officials. Despite the challenges the Oilers were able to secure a 6-5 victory with a late 3rd period goal.
During the game, Evander Kane, who is is no stranger to controversy or causing trouble, ended up colliding with goalie Alex Stalock before putting the puck into the net for what he thought was a go ahead goal.
This would cause the officials to reverse the goal and in Evander Kane style, he'd chirp the refs:
He would go on to receive an unsportsmanlike conduct penalty during the game, giving the Blackhawks a 2-man advantage on the power play.
This would give an opportunity for Max Domi to take the lead, as he would score on the power play.
You have to wonder, how much discipline is in the locker room while Jay Woodcroft allows Kane to chirp the officials. Especially when it ends up costing them this time it's a point, but thinking long-term it could end up being worse down the road.
The Oilers are attached for the next 4 years at $5.125 million a year.
