Flames player requires significant surgery after playing through ridiculous list of injuries
According to a report by Vancouver Hockey Insider, Rick Dhaliwal, Calgary Flames defenseman Chris Tanev played through some very significant injuries. Tanev fought hard to get back into the lineup, but he was definitely not 100%. It has now been revealed that Tanev played though a torn laberum, separated shoulder and had a sprained neck in Games 4 and 5. Tanev only missed missed four of his team's 12 games during the 2022 Stanley Cup Playoffs. What a savage.
Tanev, 32, appeared in all 82 of the Flames' games during the 202122 regular season. He scored a career-high 28 points (six goals, 22 assists) this season. The four games he missed during the playoffs were his first absences from the Flames' lineup since joining the team in 2020.
After winning Game 1 on Scotiabank Saddledome ice, the Flames lost the next four to end their season. Tanev logged 19:24 (and picked up an assist) in Game 4 at Rogers Arena before playing 22:08 in Game 5.
Tanev will have surgery next week to address his injuries. The 6'2″, 197-lb right-handed defenceman has two seasons remaining on his contract with the Flames at a cap hit of $4,500,000 million.
