Former Stanley Cup-winning goaltender may be available at the deadline
According to Daily Faceoff's Frank Seravalli, a former Stanley Cup champion goaltender has entered the top-25 most likely candidates to be traded at or ahead of the March 21st trade deadline.
Seravalli believes that the Dallas Stars could look to move pending UFA netminder Braden Holtby at the trade deadline after 23-year-old Jake Oettinger earned the NHL's Third Star of the Week honours for his incredible performances against Colorado, Chicago and Arizona.
Holtby, 32, won a Stanley Cup with the Washington Capitals back in 2018 and could be an improvement for a contending team in a backup capacity.
Holtby has rebounded nicely in Dallas this season after posting back-to-back disappointing campaigns with the Caps and the Canucks in 2019-20 and 2020-21. In 23 appearances this season for the Stars, Holtby has a losing record at 9-10-1 record, but has improved in both GAA (2.78) and SV% (.912) this season.
Per Seravalli, Vegas, Edmonton, Pittsburgh and even a return to Washington are possible for Holtby.
The Lloydminster, SASK native was 7-11-3 with a 3.67 GAA and a .889 SV% in Vancouver last season.
