A major setback for a former top NHL prospect as he continues to struggle to keep his professional career above water. Jeremy Bracco, who is in his second year of playing for Nur-Sultan Barys in the KHL, has been placed on waivers by the team.

As per KHL rules, teams have 48 hours to pick up Bracco's contract. If no one does, it will be officially terminated. His agent, Alyosha Pilko, told Championat.com that he finds the situation strange, even though it wasn't surprising.

"The decision on Jeremy Bracco by Barys was expected, but very strange. The player scored 40 points last year, and in his second year in the KHL he was ready to show even better results. We believe in Jeremy, we know him as a strong player. We will be looking for a new team to give Bracco the opportunity to show his best qualities on the ice and reboot his career."

Bracco has played in six games for Barys this season, scoring one goal. Last season, he had 14 goals and 40 points in 56 games.

Bracco is a second round pick of the Toronto Maple Leafs in 2015. There were high hopes for him within the organization, but it never panned out, and the 25-year-old has never played an NHL games. Bracco did spend three seasons with the Marlies of the AHL, and has his best by far in 2018-19 when he scored 22 goals and 79 points in 75 games.
