Gary Bettman reveals his decision on whether Corey Perry can resume playing this season and when.
Details about the incident that cost Corey Perry his job with the Chicago Blackhawks have still yet to be released. Reports indicate that it was a situation involving alcohol at a corporate event. After Perry had his contract terminated rumors swirled that Perry may not be eligible to continue his NHL career.
After having his deal terminated Perry released the following statement:
«I would like to sincerely apologize to the entire Chicago Blackhawks organization, including ownership, management, coaches, trainers, employees, and my teammates. I would also like to apologize to my fans, and my family. I am embarrassed and have let you all down.»
After being asked to comment Gary Bettman made it clear that he was ultimately going to make the decision of whether or not Perry could return to the ice this year. Today, according to Elliotte Friedman revealed that Bettman had officially reached his decision.
Corey Perry, whose contract was terminated by the Chicago Blackhawks on Nov. 30, met Tuesday with NHL Commissioner Gary Bettman and now is eligible to sign with other teams.
Perry is now an unrestricted free agent and is free to sign with whatever team he wishes.
