George Parros erases suspension for player who attacked Matthew Tkachuk
He's getting punished, but it could have been much worse. And, maybe should have been.
Zack MacEwan of the Ottawa Senators received a five-minute match penalty last night after jumping Matthew Tkachuk of the Florida Panthers after Tkachuk put a clean hit on Travis Hamonic.
Many thought this would lead to at least a one or two game suspension. However, Player Safety had other plans.
"Ottawa's Zack MacEwen has been fined $2,018.23, the maximum allowable under the CBA, for unsportsmanlike conduct during last night's game against Florida."
The game between the Sens and Panthers turned ugly last night with many getting into it on the ice. At one point, the referee announced every player who was on the ice at the time had received a 10 minute misconduct.
