This week the Anaheim Ducks signed defenceman John Klingberg to a one-year $7,000,000 deal. Klingberg was looking for more of a Seth Jones deal, but it just wasn't there. Ultimately Klingberg sacrificed term for immediate dollars.
Even on July 31st there is still plenty of big name talent available, including Nazem Kadri who had the best year of his career, racking up 87 points and was a huge piece of the Colorado Avalanche Stanley Cup victory. However, Kadri can never seem to get any respect. Sportsnet's Hockey Central's John Shannon would take a shot at Kadri who is looking to get a raise from the $4,500,000 million he made last season, as well as Klingberg's new deal claiming they both "overpriced" themselves as players.
Now with preseason set to begin in under 2 months, Kadri remains without a deal and Klingberg has to earn himself his next payday. This just shows that sometimes the first offer might actually be your best offer.
