The National Hockey League is no stranger to hot mic situations, most famously known for catching Tim Peel admitting to game management, but sometimes the interactions between officials and players on ice are just plain funny.
Last night when the Buffalo Sabres were visiting the New Jersey Devils after
Connor Clifton hit
Nico Hischier, Devils forward
Ondrej Palat came over and challenged the Buffalo Sabres defender, but it seems official Chris Rooney had enough leading to a Hilarious exchange; take a look.
"You're getting a power play, get the f**k outta here" 😂🔊
Rooney has always been on of the more colourful officials in the league often getting into it with players, but in this case, he's actually just trying to help the Devils who should've had a 5-minute powerplay after Clifton was ejected.
Instead, Palat challenged Clifton, the two picked up fighting majors and palat was given an extra two for instigating, cutting the Devils powerplay to 3 minutes.
Usually hot mic moments are great, and this one didn't disappoint. I love officials like Rooney who aren't afraid to tell it like it is, it leads to some hilarious reactions.
