Last season Igor Shesterkin won the Vezina Trophy and was a finalist for the Hart Trophy. New York Rangers' fans had already anointed him as the best goalie in the NHL, even mockingly taunting Andrei Vasilevskiy with "Igor's Better!" chants during the playoffs. Those chants may have been premature, because this season Shesterkin has been anything but elite.

The Rangers have lost 8 of their last 12 games and Monday night they were dealt another loss by their arch rivals the New Jersey Devils. The Devils beat the Rangers by a score of 5-3 in MSG. Things got so bad that during the 3rd period of the game Rangers' fans began to boo Shesterkin and his play.

After the game Shesterkin was critical of his performance, giving an honest assessment of his play

The goalie played a shit game again.

Every goal is easy play for me. I have to stop those. If our team wants to win the game, I have to play better.

Despite the Rangers poor record Shesterkin hasn't played poorly. This season he's 10-4-3 with a 2.56 goals against average and .913 save percentage. While not good enough for himself, most teams would certainly take that level of goaltending, The Rangers are back in action Wednesday night against the Ottawa Senators, when they will look to avoid losing a 4th straight game.
