The Boston Bruins are set to go to arbitration with Jeremy Swayman. The young goalie was a key part of the Bruins regular season success as he shared the goal with Vezina Trophy Winner, Linus Ullmark. Unfortunately the Bruins success didn't carry over into the playoffs, losing in the first round to the Florida Panthers.
Since the beginning of the offseason the Bruins have tried to come to terms on a new deal with Swayman, but unfortunately the two parties have been unable to find common ground. Ahead of their arbitration hearing Elliotte Friedman revealed just how far apart the two parties are on a new deal.
The Bruins are currently about $5,500,000 from the salary cap ceiling, with pending restricted free agent Trent Frederic still not signed. The Bruins also are in desperate need of adding a center to their roster after the departure of Patrice Bergeon and likely David Krejci.
If Swayman comes anywhere close to this amount the Bruins will likely have to make a difficult roster decision. With Ullmark already under contract and up and coming Brandon Bussi, the Bruins might have to make some tough choices.
