The Toronto Maple Leafs have a laundry list of things to do and fix before next season begins. At the top of that list is signing Auston Matthews and William Nylander to contract extensions after July 1st, but it appears negations with the latter aren't going to well.
According to Elliotte Friedman of Sportsnet, while appearing on 630 CHED with Bob Stauffer, things have stalled, and it's something to watch; take a look.
Today Elliotte Friedman confirmed that things aren't going well between the Maple Leafs and Nylander further aligning with exactly what I've been telling people.
Second segment, 9 minutes in.
The quote is as follows regarding Nylander:
There was word the last couple of days that it wasn't going great between the Leafs and Nylander. If that doesn't change, that's a situation to watch
Amid speculation that the Leafs want to sign both Matthews and Nylander to extensions, there's a realization that signing Nylander not be possible.
Nylander, 27, skated in all 82 games for Toronto last season and set a career high in goals (40), assists (47) and points (87) and it's becoming more and more likely that he's priced himself out of Toronto.
We'll see how things play out over the off-season, but I wouldn't be surprised if by mid season, they look to trade Nylander before he walks on the open market for nothing
