Plenty of young players begin their development in the American League and it should benefit both the organization and player in the long run. Lots of NHL clubs have the dilemma of what to do with young players before they have skated in ten regular season NHL games. Franchises will send a player back to juniors or the minors before ten games, so they don't burn the first year of their entry level contract. Slafkovsky has only played four games and it does seem likely he will be sent down if there are no other injuries for the Canadiens up front.
