It's cringeworthy to see, but the truly amazing things is that there isn't even more damage. Jakub Lauko has posted pictures of his injury just two days after taking a skate blade hard to the face. The results are graphic, to say the least.

First of all, here's the incident where Lauko injured his eye. There's nothing intentional on the part of Jason Dickinson of the Chicago Blackhawks. It was just a very unfortunate accident.
And here's how Lauko's eye looks now. It is completely swollen shut, and the stiches are a fraction of a millimeter away from his actual eyeball. Boston coach Jim Montgomery said earlier that the skate blade did not touch the eyeball, but it certainly came very close.

As for recovery time, that's still being determined. The bone around the eye has been fractured, and doctors need at least a week for the swelling to go down before making a proper prognosis. Lauko was playing in his 29th NHL game at the time.
