Jeremy Swayman suffers scary leg injury (Video)
The Boston Bruins came up with a big overtime win in Pittsburgh defeating the Penguins 6-5 on overtime. Despite the victory, Boston goaltender Jeremy Swayman was injured during the game, and he did not return. About five minutes into the third period, Patrice Bergeron was backchecking hard and lost his footing. His momentum carried him right towards Swayman where he collided with him. Swayman remained face down on the ice for several moments after the collision.
You could tell Patrice Bergeron felt awful about what happened, and he certainly didn't mean to hurt his own player. It appeared that Swayman injured his left leg. When Swayman left the ice, he left gingerly and did not put any weight on his left leg. As a result, Linus Ullmark finished the game for Boston.
It is likely Swayman will be reevaluated soon. If Swayman is out for an extended period, look for Ullmark to pick up the workload and for Boston to recall a goalie from their farm club in Providence. Let's hope the injury with Swayman is not long term and that he will be ok. Boston is off to a terrific start to the season. They have won nine of their first ten games this season.
In absence of Swayman, Nick Foligno took part in the Bruins post game celebration.
