The pinnacle of Canadian junior hockey is going on right now as the Canadian Hockey League's national championship, the Memorial Cup is taking place this week. The host team Saint John Sea Dogs defeated the Shawinigan Cataractes on Saturday to lock up first place in the round robin and a bye to the championship final. During the post-game press conference, the Sea Dogs head coach Gardiner MacDougall gave one of the best quotes.
MacDougall was giving an impassioned speech about how the home crowd and lady momentum were on the Sea Dogs side Saturday night. But MacDougall's phone started to ring and he gave a hilarious answer to who was calling.
"We all have special ladies in our lives. Our grandmothers, out mothers, our wives, I have a daughter, I have sisters, but the key to success tonight was a lady called Lady 'Mo. Mrs. Lady Momentum. Sometimes she's hard to find. You don't know how long she's going to stay with you. We're lucky tonight that we found her and she stayed with us for a while and full credit to the crowd for introducing 'Mo to our team."
*his phone rings"
*reaches into pocket to hang up*
"That's either 'Mo or the Winnipeg Jets again, sorry."
Not only does Gardiner MacDougall have a solid old-school ringtone, but he gave one of the best one-liners you'll hear this year. Who knows, maybe if he wins the Memorial Cup the Winnipeg Jets may actually give him a call.
