The Los Angeles Kings made the trip to Columbus yesterday for a matchup against the struggling Blue Jackets. The Kings currently sit 3rd in the Pacific Division, while the Blue Jackets occupy last place in the Eastern Conference. With two teams going in opposite directions, it's always difficult to predict the outcome of the game.
With the two teams deadlocked at 4, the game headed to overtime. As Patrik Laine carried the puck into the King's zone he creates an opportunity, and as the puck bounces up Johnny Gaudreau knocks the puck on net with his hand. This is clearly going to be no goal, that is until Kevin Fiala makes a play on the puck.
Fiala knocks the puck away from his own net, before knocking it right back into the net. The change of possession by Fiala negated the illegal touch by Gaudreau and allowed the Blue Jackets to walk away with a 5-4 victory.
This is tough play for Fiala, bu the has to be aware that this is going to be no goal and let the play happen. Unfortunately for the Kings, dropping an additional point to a bottom feeder like the Blue Jackets has to hurt.
