Major KHL news about the leagues future
It has been rumored for awhile now but today it became official by a statement released by the president of the KHL. Dinamo Riga and Jokerit have left the KHL and will not participate in the 2022-2023 season.
The ongoing conflict in Ukraine is mostly to blame for the Finnish club Jokerit and Latvia's Dinamo Riga departure. In a statement released by Dinamo representatives «In such a military and humanitarian crisis, we do not see any opportunity for cooperation with the Kontinental Hockey League.» The team representing Latvia has decided to stand with Ukraine, a fellow member of the former Soviet Nation.
With no sign of the things slowing down in Ukraine and more sanctions being put on Russia as each day passes. Will more teams leave the KHL? If not more teams there also must be a fear of many import players refusing to return to play in Russia.
