Hockey players are some of the toughest people on the planet, if you think about it, it takes a special kind of tough to put your body on the line day in and day out. Whether that's blocking shots, throwing hits, or dropping the gloves.
Saturday night in a game against the Minnesota Wild, Matt Luff unfortunately took a slap shot off his stick and directly to the chin.
According to his agent, Allan Walsh, it took 16 stitches to close the gash. Luff also lost a few teeth on the play after taking the 89 mph slapshot off the chin.
and is missing a few teeth after taking an 89 mile per hour shot off the chin, take a look:
Luff was of course on the ice this morning for morning skate, never missing a beat.
I'm sure he'll need some dental work once the swelling goes down, but one thing is clear, hockey players don't let a a little blood or swelling get in the way of doing their jobs on the ice.
At only 25 years old and with 89 NHL games under his belt, Luff is still trying to get his feet wet at the games highest level and on a rebuilding team like the Red Wings, this act of toughness will go a long way at proving he belongs in the NHL
