NHL Department of Player Safety announces multi-game suspension for Juraj Slafkovsky
Last night during the Detroit Red Wings versus Montreal Canadiens game, 1st overall pick Juraj Slafkovsky threw a dangerous hit that nearly ended Matt Luff's season. As Luff looks to play the puck in front of the Montreal bench, Slafkovsky closes the gap and delivers a hit directly to the numbers. The hit sends Luff face first directly into the boards. Luff was slow to get up, would leave the game and would not return.
Today the Red Wing's announced that Luff would be forced to undergo surgery that would take him out of the lineup until at least 2023. The surgery, which is listed as an "upper body injury" will occur tomorrow.
Earlier today it was announced Slafkovsky would have the first hearing of his NHL career and now the NHL has announced Slafkovsky's first suspension. This marks the first documented time that a 1st overall pick was suspended during their rookie season.
Montreal's Juraj Slafkovsky has been suspended for two games for Boarding Detroit's Matt Luff.
Slafkovsky will be able to return to the lineup next Tuesday against the New Jersey Devils.
