Yesterday, NHL Insider Greg Wyshynski shared an interesting note about the differences in shot count during last night's game between the New Jersey Devils and New York Islanders.
In his tweet, Wyshynski outlines the differences in shot count from different sources within the league, which has a direct impact on the larger issue, the quality of NHL betting.
With the league embracing betting in the last year, it's important to get these details correct - people have money riding on it. So far into the era of NHL betting, things like player props for shots have been incredibly popular, making it all the more a necessity for the league to have accurate and official statistics available publicly. Perhaps it'll even push the league and teams to reveal some of the currently private hockey statistics.
In the meantime though, the NHL may look to centralize shot counting to eliminate the potential home-team bias. With money riding on these games and these statistics, the NHL will be quick to correct itself.
