NHL forces referee to take part in cringeworthy speech before opening faceoff
The 2022 NHL season is officially underway on North American soil. Before the opening faceoff during tonight's New York Rangers and Tampa Bay Lightning game, the league had veteran official, Chris Rooney, give an awkward speech.
As cameras zoomed into center ice Rooney stood holding the puck and looking at the camera.
To our great players and our great fans, welcome to opening night of the 2022/23 NHL season. What better than this? Good luck to all players. Let's have a great season.
The crowd in the arena didn't know what to think of Rooney's speech as there was zero reaction. But it's clear fans online thought it was an absolutely cringeworthy moment.
