Since travelling to Sweden and being unable to play in both Global Series games, the injury situation became more clear for Klingberg. According to multiple reports, Klingberg has a significant hip injury that's been aggravated by the long flights, and it's possible he won't play again this year.
TSN's Mike Johnson was recently with Klingberg in Sweden, and saw firsthand his extreme mobility problems after the flight. On a radio hit this morning, Johnson clearly believed that Klingberg will soon meet with a doctor who will confirm that he will be out for the rest of the season.
In some ways, this situation will significantly help the Leafs. Klingberg was bordering on being unplayable with his early season performances, but that's now explained by a brutal hip injury. If Klingberg is done for the rest of the season, his $4M cap hit will be placed on the LTIR, and the Leafs will easily be able to make a move to upgrade the defence.
