New Canadian legislation makes it significantly harder for teams to sign free agents
The Canadian government has been looking for ways to help control the housing crisis. So the government implemented new rules to prevent foreign buyers from purchasing homes. According to NHL Super Agent, Dan Milstein, this trickles down to NHL players.
Milstein took to his Twitter account to share the following information.
It's been hard for Canadian teams to sign free agents due to high taxes, cost of living etc. Yesterday Canada banned home sales to all foreigners for 2 yrs including US Citizens. Can you imagine signing a contract & not be allowed to buy a home for your family? Ridiculous
According to Milstein this is going to make it much harder for Canadian teams to try and sign players. While there is some disputing of these claims it's clear that if true this could hamper the efforts of many teams trying to compete.
