The New York Rangers have been without a captain since they traded defenceman Ryan McDonagh. McDonagh was traded on February 26th, 2018 to the Tampa Bay Lightning. The trade marked the beginning of an official rebuild within the organization.
However, that's reportedly going to change. According to NHL Insider, Kevin Weekes, the New York Rangers are set to name defenceman Jacob Trouba as the next captain of the original six franchise.
Trouba has been with the Rangers since June 17th, 2019 when the Rangers acquired Trouba from the Winnipeg Jets in exchange Neal Pionk and a first round draft pick. Trouba has a reputation around the league as one of the heaviest hitters, having accumulated a large highlight reel this year alone.
