The Toronto Maple Leafs put forward Nicolas Aube-Kubel on waivers after he saw action in just 6 of 11 games to start the year, the Washington Capitals claimed the Stanley Cup Champion and he wasted no time making an impact.

Making his debut last night when Washington hosted the Edmonton Oilers, Aube-Kubel lit Evander Kane up just inside the Oilers zone, take a look:

The Aube-Kubel experiment failed in Toronto, but one must now call in to question the teams systems. It seems on one game with the Capitals he's made his presence know, et could he not do that in Toronto?
For a team starved for physical toughness, the waive of Aube-Kubel in my mind makes no sense. Even though he only appeared in 6 games and was largely non-existent, he lead the Leafs in hits. To me, that's coaching and management trying to tone a player down instead of letting them do what they naturally do best.
Seems now that Aube-Kubel is out of the constraints of the Leafs, he can now play how he wants and be a very effective player at that.
