The only question on this one is intent, because the act definitely happened. The video doesn't lie.
Jacob Trouba of the New York Rangers is very likely to get a call from the NHL's Department of Player Safety after a brutal stick swing to the head of Trent Frederic of the Boston Bruins, and landing a good one. Take a look:
How Frederic remained upright after that is anyone's guess. There are some suggesting online that Trouba was simply trying to wrestle his stick away from Frederic, and that the smack wasn't intentional. I'm not sure I buy it. There was no call on the play, despite the fact that the referee was standing right next to them.
Whether it was intentional or not, there should have at least been a penalty. I really think this one lands at least a fine, but I wouldn't be surprised at a hearing either. The Rangers won this game 7-4.
However, knowing the Department of Player Safety, it would also not be surprising if Trouba gets off Scott free
