Ottawa Senators Head Coach gives an embarrassing answer about his teams play, shows how out of touch he is
This summer the Ottawa Senators and their fanbase proclaimed that the team had finally arrived. After acquiring Alex DeBrincat, the team added Claude Giroux and went onto sign most of their core to contract extensions. This was marked the Summer of Dorion, with many feeling he'd cemented the Senators as a playoff team.
Unfortunately for Dorion and the Senators the NHL still plays the games. Playing the games has led the Senators to a 6-10-1 record and they currently find themselves sitting 31st overall. Historically the team has been slow starters under DJ Smith, but in previous years there were no expectations.
Now it appears the fanbase has turned on Smith, but he continues to receive support from both management and the players. Now during an interview DJ Smith provided a hilarious answer to his assessment of his team.
We've had 1 game out of 17 where we didn't play to our identity of being a hard working team.
Fans understandably reacted poorly to this comment. Especially when you understand that Dorion believes his team played the right way 16 out of 17 games.
Something has to give in Ottawa soon or DJ Smith's struggles may just fall on the shoulders of Pierre Dorion, with both men shown the door.
