As per Bruce Garrioch of TSN, the Ottawa Senators will look to trade their 7th overall draft selection this year. In the past, GM Pierre Dorion has claimed the team's rebuild to be over, with intentions of moving towards playoff contention.
Garrioch reported that several teams are interested in acquiring the top 10 pick from the Senators at the draft, including the Minnesota Wild, Chicago Blackhawks, Vegas Golden Knights, and Arizona Coyotes.
Within the Senators' front office, it's been known they'd like to acquire a top defenceman and some veteran scoring threats to help lead their budding young core of players. Apparently the defenceman need was met with last year's trade for Travis Hamonic, but with the recent departure of Pierre McGuire from the team, perhaps that need is re-evaluated.
Some players the Senators could be targeting from interested teams include Kevin Fiala, Alex DeBrincat, Kirby Dach, Jakob Chychrun, and Jonathan Marchessault. All players have been reported to be on the move, whether being because of salary cap constraints, or their teams entering a rebuild.
It's likely that if the Senators were to land one of these top players, their 7th overall selection would be the main piece in a larger package to acquire a bona-fide star.
