In the middle of game 5 between the Boston Bruins and Florida Panthers, Paul Maurice gave an interview to ESPN, and one particular question caused an awkward moment for Maurice on the bench.
Maurice was asked about the decision to start Sergei Bobrovsky over Alex Lyon, while standing about a foot away from Lyon, who likely heard the entire exchange.
Maurice explained starting Bobrovsky as a commitment to the team's leadership, and seeing Bobrovsky as a more established leader capable of playing big games, more so than Alex Lyon. When considering Bobrovsky's massive $10M a year contract, he should be playing these games automatically - along with every other playoff game.
The Panthers went on to win 4-3 in overtime last night in Boston, forcing a game six to be played in Florida on Friday night. With the performance of last night, it's likely that Bobrovsky will start for the Panthers again.
