Insider Elliotte Friedman broke news tonight that the Philadelphia Flyers will be signing their restricted free agent forward Morgan Frost to a two year contract just north of $2M.
Frost, just 24 years old with 158 career games played, produced at a respectable offensive rate for 19 goals and 46 points in 81 games last season. Of the desolate rendition of the Flyers last season, Frost proved to be one of the bright spots for the future in Philadelphia.
This team-friendly extension comes even after Frost was the victim of some scorn from head coach John Tortorella. Earlier last season, Tortorella described Frost's play to be «up and down like a toilet seat», but earned the trust of the famously tough coach as the season progressed.
Tortorella took on the Flyers' coaching role knowing the team is not likely to be competitive for the coming seasons, and has publicly embraced a role as a talent evaluator for the future of the Flyers. Despite being on a bridge contract for now, Frost had made a significant enough impression to be thought of in future plans for Philly, after their rebuild.
