The Summer of Pierre quickly turned sour for the Ottawa Senators. The team is currently sitting tied for 32nd in the NHL and hasn't gotten off the the start many predicted they would. Now it appears the one mistake Dorion made over the summer he's now trying to correct.

After an injury to Thomas Chabot, the Senators find themselves in desperate need of adding a defenseman. The Senators recently waived Nikita Zaitsev after his defensive errors became impossible to ignore. Now according to Elliotte Friedman it looks like Dorion is swinging for the fences.

I do believe now, I kind of hinted at it last Saturday but I believe it even more now, I believe there was a deal somewhere vetoed by a player, I don't know who that player was but I do believe that happened in at least one case.

Marek on Erik Karlsson: I wondered about Ottawa.

Friedman: I think those conversations have happened between the Sharks and the Sens, I believe the two teams have talked about it. I don't know if it's going to be possible. What I heard was it's just not going to be cap possible.

According to Friedman, even if the Sharks were to retain 50% of Karlsson's salary, Ottawa couldn't make the deal work. With both Artem Zub and Alex DeBrincat needing extensions, it appears Dorion won't be able to right Eugene Melnyk's wrong of his treatment of Erik Karlsson.
