The Toronto Maple Leafs spent the early parts of this offseason overhauling their goaltending department. After firing longtime goalie coach Steve Briere, the Maple Leafs announced the hiring of Curtis Sanford. Sanford assisted Kyle Dubas and Sheldon Keefe in evaluating all the talent on the goaltending market before making their decision on which direction to go.
Sanford ultimately felt that adding Matt Murray and Ilya Samsonov would send the team in the right direction. Now it appears a former Maple Leafs goalie has drawn some attention. Curtis McElhinney, was the Maple Leafs backup goaltender for 2 seasons, before being claimed off waivers by the Carolina Hurricanes.
